NEVC Announces Athlete of the Week Honorees (Week Ending 3/17/24)
Smithfield, R.I.- The New England Volleyball Conference (NEVC) has announced its Athlete of the Week honorees for the week ending 3/17/24. The full list of honorees can be found below.
Athlete of the Week
Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (Sr., OH), Eastern Nazarene College
Senior Alejandro Garcia Fernandez (San Juan, Puerto Rico) averaged 6.00 kills per set on .439 hitting to lead the Lions to two league wins. He compiled 31 kills in a 3-2 win over SUNY Poly, and 17 in a sweep of SUNY Potsdam. Garcia Fernandez recorded his 1,000-career kill, the first in program history to achieve the feat. The senior tacked on 14 digs, nine service aces and three total blocks.
Rookie of the Week
Evan Sachs (Fr., S), Nichols College
Freshman Evan Sachs (Long Island, N.Y.) posted two career-best performances in a 2-0 week for Nichols. Sachs dished out a combined 63 assists between the two matches, including a career-high 37 against Elms College with 10 digs for his first collegiate double-double, which averaged out to 10.50 assists per set. The freshman setter also secured 10 kills, 15 digs, and one service ace, along with a .300 (10-4-20) hitting percentage.

The NEVC is a NCAA Division III single-sport conference sponsoring the sport of men’s volleyball. The conference is comprised of eight institutions, Bard College, Eastern Nazarene College, Endicott College, Nichols College, Northern Vermont University – Johnson, SUNY Polytechnic Institute, SUNY Potsdam and Russell Sage College.
