No. 3 Endicott, No. 4 SUNY Poly Advance to NEVC Championship Semifinal Round
The fourth-seeded SUNY Poly rallied to reverse-sweep the fifth-seeded SUNY Potsdam, winning 3-2 in the first game of the New England Volleyball Conference (NEVC) first round.
Peter Gottler paced SUNY Poly with 17 kills, five aces and eight digs. Jason Aubrey had 15 kills, two blocks and an ace. James Mion recorded 10 kills and seven blocks. Joshua Slater had a match-best 47 assists and Thomas McNulty posted 22 digs.
SUNY Potsdam outside hitter Duncan Tenhagen led the Bears with a program record 29 kills along with 19 digs and two aces.
The Bears took set one 25-21 and were on the brink of advancing after a 25-15 win in set two. However, the host Wilcats rallied for 25-21, 25-21 and 15-7 decisions to clinch the victory.
With the win, SUNY Poly advances to face top-seeded Nichols on Thursday, April 11 at 7:00 PM.
In the second game of the evening, Endicott defeated Russell Sage, 3-0, by scores of 25-15, 25-18, and 25-16 at MacDonald Gymnasium.
Jake Laborde posted match-highs in kills (10, .400) and digs (8) to lead the Gulls. Aidan Iacovelli notched eight kills, four digs, and two block assists, while Alex Bui contributed six kills, two service aces, five digs, and two block assists.
Logan Pohl also filled the stat sheet with four kills, a match-high four service aces, four digs, and a match-high-tying three block assists.
Gavin Emenaker facilitated the attack with a match-high 23 assists (.535).
Tonight's match only featured two ties (2-0-0) and one lead change (1-0-0).
With the win, third-seeded Endicott (13-11) visits second-seeded Eastern Nazarene in the NEVC Semifinals on Thursday, April 11 at 7 PM.
